The first Woolworth's store

F.W. Woolworth & Co.
Utica, N.Y.
The first Woolworth's store was founded, with a loan of $300, in 1878 by Frank Winfield Woolworth. But the store failed within a year. However, a second store he opened on June 21, 1879 in Lancaster, Pa., became a success. This old photo of clerks outside the F.W. Woolworth store at 170 N. Queen St., Lancaster, Pa. was taken in June 1879.
